Engage

“The Gallup State of the Global Workplace 2025 report highlights a concerning trend: declining global employee engagement, with a significant impact on the economy. A key finding is the critical role of managers in either fostering or hindering engagement, and the report emphasizes the need for better manager development and support.”

The latest Gallup State of the Global Workplace report is in and the head of the organization was sounding an alarm louder than I have ever heard before. I won’t bore you with all the details, but I am sure you are aware of some of the more damning ones:

  • almost 2/3 of every employed person have “quiet quit” and are simply going through the motions, trying not to get fired, and biding their time

  • an even greater percentage don’t regard their current employer as a very long term home and are actively filtering the ocean of opportunities offered to them daily

  • a large majority believe there is a better opportunity elsewhere than the one they currently have

You feel that, right? Maybe your organization and team are different than that, but if it is only half true of your employee base, it is still incredibly costly. They also talk quite a bit about AI and the impact it is having on worker stability.

Here is the scariest number of the entire report; they estimate the cost of global disengagement to be roughly 9% of GDP. By proxy you could say that your company’s GDP is akin to the output or revenue your company produces. Meaning, if you have $10 million in revenue, it is costing you $900,000, give or take. Again, if it is half as bad for you, it is still a lot of money.

Gallup does provide some hope. The three greatest things you can do to improve your level of engagement are:

  1. Invest in the development of your leaders.

  2. Teach them to coach (delegate, encourage, support, etc. those they lead)

  3. Care about them beyond their transactional value. Care about their lives even beyond work.

Our clients hire us to coach their senior leadership, conduct leadership classes for their next generations of leaders, and even underwrite them attending our Life Plan retreats where they craft a more inspirational story for their entire lives, not just their work lives. The work has been so impactful that one client said they have institutionalized our coaching and leadership classes and asked that we not offer this competitive advantage to anyone else in their industry.

Whether it is with SummitTrek or the many other in-person and virtual resources available, small investments in your team that produce significant ROI’s in engagement and productivity has never been more valuable and in the words of Gallup, it’s never been more critical.

Consider

  • How disengaged do you feel like your team is? What if you are wrong?

  • Do you know how much disengagement is costing your company?

  • What is one small decision you can make in the direction of correcting that incredibly costly problem? (talk to us or another coaching company, invest in leadership tools, train your team, etc.)
